NERIS Federal Reporting Module for Fire Departments

Firehouse247 project preview

About the Client

FH247 is a team of firefighters who experienced firsthand the struggles of inefficient pen-and-paper systems for shift scheduling. Spending countless hours on manual tasks, they knew there had to be a better way. So, they built their first scheduling tool to streamline operations, which evolved into Firehouse247 — a tailored, rule-based system that stands out in the market. The company mission is to help every department transition from outdated methods or inefficient products to a new solution, reducing costs and saving valuable time.

01Client problem

As the new NERIS federal reporting system was announced to replace the old NFIRS system, FH247 decided to extend its software by adding a new reporting module that would allow fire departments to send reports directly to the federal system in a comfortable and time-efficient way for each firefighter.

02Solution

First of all the Unilime team completed all the necessary steps for integration with the official NERIS system. As a result, FH247 received the status/badge of an official software provider capable of handling NERIS integrations for fire departments. An incident storage and report management system was created, essentially acting as a smaller duplicate of the national system. This system serves as an intermediate layer between: the CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems, where all incident information is initially created and stored and the federal NERIS system, where all final reports must be submitted. For each specific fire department, separate custom integrations were developed to pull incident data from their local CAD systems. This allows firefighters to use prefilled incident information and complete their reports in a much more comfortable and time-efficient way. Once a report is completed and validated, it is sent directly to the federal system. No old-style paperwork is required anymore, while corrections and updates are still supported when needed. Additionally, the platform provides incident statistics and analytics, including an incident map with various filtering capabilities. This gives departments a valuable high-level overview for operational analysis and future planning.
